Alexandra Hills Heat Pump Hot Water Systems
Warm, humid Bayside air is exactly what a heat pump runs best on. We install, service and repair them across the Redlands — and help you make the most of the solar panels already on your roof.
Why heat pumps suit the Bay so well
A heat pump doesn’t heat water with a big element. It draws warmth out of the surrounding air — the same principle as a fridge, run backwards — and transfers it into the tank. The warmer and muggier the air, the less effort that takes, and Redlands summers are about as warm and muggy as it gets. Even on a crisp July morning in Alexandra Hills, the air rarely gets cold enough to hold a good unit back. The upshot is far less electricity than a standard electric tank uses to deliver the same hot water.
Already have rooftop solar? Put it to work
Plenty of homes in Thornlands, Victoria Point and Redland Bay carry solar PV, and most of them send their midday surplus back to the grid for a modest feed-in credit. Set a heat pump to run through the middle of the day and it uses that power to heat your water instead. We program the timer during the install and show you how to change it. Heat pump systems may also be eligible for small-scale technology certificates (STCs) under the federal scheme, which can bring the upfront price down — we’ll confirm eligibility when we quote.
Placement matters: noise and salt air
A heat pump has a fan and compressor, so it gives off a low hum, much like an air-con outdoor unit. On a big block in Sheldon nobody notices. In the close-set estates of Thornlands and Victoria Point, though, a narrow side setback can put it a few metres from a neighbour’s bedroom. We choose a spot away from sleeping areas that still lets the unit breathe, and set it to run in daylight rather than overnight. Nearer the water in Cleveland, Ormiston or Wellington Point, salt air goes after fins and fittings, so we favour sheltered positions and models suited to coastal conditions, and suggest keeping the coil clean.
Heat pump repairs and changeovers
We service and repair heat pumps of every brand — fan and compressor faults, error codes, blocked condensate drains, and tanks that heat slowly or not at all. Repairs start from $315. If your old electric tank is due for replacement, a heat pump is often the smart swap, and we take care of the full installation, including removing the old unit. We supply heat pump models from Thermann, Vulcan and Rheem.
